Week 3

Thursday Morning (Feb. 22)

  • 5 adults in room + a chatty parent for a while
  • 6-7 children with high energy
  • music was on

WAY too many adults, all standing:

= we need to sit and lower our bodies

= use minimal words

Melanie spoke to all of us about keeping our bodies much lower in the room and minimal talking.

Room Support (RS) & F

  • hand over hand T showed F how to hug herself: knees up and arms around them.
  • T had F in her lap showing this and rocked her gently
  • Counts softly while doing compressions with F (seeks out pressure)
  • T doesn’t touch a child unless she makes eye contact with them

Noticed: F sought out Joycy after looking at all the adults in the room standing (J was the only adult crouched down in the room)

Self Reflection:

This week was a much better week, I am feeling a lot better about my connections with the children. I’ve been my goofy self outside, developing relationships with the children.

When entering the room, or the outside space, I take time to sit and observe to “read the room.” This allows me to make a mental game plan for myself and my placement in the space.

Highlight:

It was just a really good week. I created an invitation to play, and the other educators left it night for the children to enjoy today.

Challenge/Professional Development:

Provided snack and guided snack for a group of the children

Ideas for Next week:

Outside is very muddy and the children really seem to enjoy water play as most do at this age.

I am hoping to attach some cardboard to the fence and allow the children to paint it with water, mud, and use the rocks and whatever else they find to create as they please.
