While observing a new group of children, I noticed one frequently stimming. I decided to shift my focus to them for the day. I watched as she pushed a chair toward the classroom fish tank. The tank is along the wall, so she placed herself facing the wall. Seeing what is shown in the photo bellow:

After she was done with the space, I went over and positioned myself similarly to see why she kept returning to the space.

I realized that it was a regulation space for her. Looking at the fish allows her to block out the rest of the visually stimulating room. She drums on the black table, wiggling back and forth. Watching the fish in water is naturally grounding to be around. The fan beside the fish tank also allows for some of the sound in the room to dissipate. Fans are very calming to a lot of people, so I completely understand why she chooses to visit this space regularly.
